"Wow, worth the investment",  May 8, 2011

If you're looking at this lens you're probably already in the camp of believing the ability to take great pictures is worth a pretty high price. I can tell you from my experience this lens makes a great contribution to this commitment. I mated this lens to a 7d and together w/ a 24-70 L lens feel I'm now getting the pictures I'd hoped after a few months of researching and considering alternatives. The few thousand pictures I've taken since have already helped me reach the conclusion it's one of my best purchases in a while.

Everything is very clear, IS works great, I dont think it's too heavy and focus is still plenty fast. I'm shooting kids in various active situations including sports and theatre.

LOVE it...take the plunge!

"Amazing Lens",  March 26, 2011 By Doug Vann (Pike Bay, Ontario)

The sharpness and picture quality from this lens is the best I have been able to get from any lens I have ever owned and I have had a lot of lenses..... Sigma 50mm f1.4, Canon 200mm f2.8 L, Canon 135mm f2 L, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L (non-IS), Canon 24-105 f4 L, Canon 50mm f1.8, Canon 17-85, Canon 18-55, Canon 16-35 II L f2.8, Canon 28-70 f2.8 L, Canon 75-300, Canon 100mm f2.8 L macro. I own a Canon 5D mkII and this new lens in combination with this camera is perfect. I think the 70-200 with the full frame sensor of the 5D mkII would be better then on a crop camera. In that case giving the lens a longer focal length would not be what I was after and would affect the use of the lens indoors in some situations. Anyway I think the IS on this lens is probably the best made. I also had the 100mm f2.8 L macro and the IS on the 70-200 is better or at least is able to give better results. The ability to actually shoot at lower shutter speeds and in lower light is a big bonus - and get results that are useable.
I was using 4 lenses up until buying this one. I am now down to 2 which was my goal. I got tired of switching lenses and am now using this one as well as the 24-105 f4 L IS lens. The 24-105 has also given me great results and has a terrific zoom range on a full frame camera.

The Canadian dollar is now worth more then the American dollar and has helped bring down the price of this lens up here. I got it for $2299 at Henrys on sale. If you can afford this lens then I would highly recommend it for anyone serious about taking high quality pictures. Even a the price of this lens you will not be sorry....

Simply the best zoom lens Canon makes, February 18, 2011

This Canon lens is the best lens I've ever owned, bar none. The build quality is very tight, controls are smooth and fit and finish are excellent. The colors and contrast that it produces are on par with some of Canon's best primes.

I use this lens for shooting youth sports, specifically soccer and baseball and it has not let me down. As a matter of fact, I sold my 100-400 lens to purchase this lens and have had no regrets whatsoever. I've coupled it with a Canon 1.4x Extender II for a little more reach and I have not seen any image degradation at all.

If you are on the fence about purchasing this lens I say go for it. It will not let you down.
